Decatur Church of Christ Family,

When we decided to suspend our worship assemblies two weeks ago, we also promised all of you that we would reevaluate our situation on April 1.  As you know, the world has continued to change dramatically on a daily basis since the COVID-19 outbreak began in our country.  Yesterday, Governor Abbott extended his executive order to encourage all Texans to stay at home unless they are involved in essential services through April 30.  Further, County Judge J.D. Clark extended his executive order through April 7 that strictly enforces social distancing and sanitization, prohibits gatherings of more than 10, and coincides with the other parts of the Governor’s executive order.  We feel it is essential to abide by these orders.

So we have decided to continue assembling on-line for at least the next four Sundays.  The safety and health of each one of you, as well as our surrounding community, is our priority.  We continue to work hard at staying connected with each other.   We know that Life Groups are staying in touch with each other through GroupMe and other avenues.  Our Youth have gathered via Zoom video meetings.  Elders are communicating with each of our Shepherding Group members.  Many face to face visits are happening on outside porches while practicing safe social distancing.  And there is no telling how many phone calls are being made to check on each other.  We are so proud of the way our church family has risen to the occasion during this unusual time.

Rick will continue to broadcast messages on Facebook, YouTube, and our website on Sundays and Wednesdays.  Each Sunday will also include a focus on the Lord’s Supper as we all commune on-line together around the table.   These messages over the last 2 weeks have been so rich and relevant to this time.  And by the way, there were 360 YouTube views last Sunday, so possibly 600-700 people viewed God’s message!  Praise God for the way His voice is being heard during this storm, even beyond our local church family.

As Rick reminded us last Sunday, this storm is temporary.  We cannot wait to be assembled together again in the future and to praise God for the calm that He will surely bring after this storm is over.  Until then, stay safe, stay connected, and above all stay fearless in the refuge of our Lord.  We love you all very much.

Your Shepherds

We believe that God has brought you here because you have special gifts with which to build up his body. We want you to find your place so that your life can bring blessing and encouragement to others.
